Obituary

Mrs. Joyce Brantley Ward, age 79, beloved wife of the late Billy Ward, of Soperton passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 12, 2024 in Soperton, Georgia.

Born in Uvalda, Georgia, she was one of fifteen children born to the late Oliver Lonzo Brantley and Gladys Evalee Edge Brantley.  She and her siblings grew up in Soperton where she has lived most of her lifetime.  Mrs. Ward had worked at the Soperton Shirt Factory and Austin Lee Textile in Fort Valley for a short period of time before obtaining her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant.  She worked at Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center and with other home health care agencies before retiring in 1999.    Mrs. Ward had been the primary caregiver for her son, Kelvin, for over fifty years, until his passing in 2020.

She enjoyed time spent with her family, camping, fishing and board games.

Mrs. Ward was a longtime member of Aimwell Calvary Holiness Church in Vidalia.

In addition to her parents, husband and son, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Brantley and his wife, Lois, Frank Brantley and Steve Brantley.

Mrs. Ward leaves behind, her son, Kendall Ward and his wife, Cindy, Albany, GA, siblings, Hilburn Brantley, Macon, GA, Ann McDaniel, Soperton, GA, Helen Giles, Soperton, GA, Vivian Davis, Soperton, GA, Brenda Brantley, Soperton, Buck Brantley, Vidalia, Dervin Brantley, McRae, Shannon Brantley, Norristown, Dale Brantley. Soperton, Nell Brown, Soperton, Teresa Morris, Soperton, two grandchildren, Deborah Munafo, Cumberland Gap, TN, Kendra Uselton, Enid, MS, six great grandchildren, Braylin, Bradon, Braxton, Taylor, Tyson, Trenton and countless nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 o'clock noon on Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Blackville Church of God, with Reverend Noah Phillips and Pastor Cody Sellars officiating.

Mrs. Ward will be laid to rest beside her husband and son in Tarrytown Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Drew Munafo, Timothy Uselton, Michael Giles, Clint Brantley, Buck Brantley and Bruce Morris.

Her great grandsons, Bradon, Braxton, Tyson and Trenton will serve as honorary escorts.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Blackville Church of God or friends and family may call at the home of Bruce and Teresa Brantley Morris.
