Leon Lamar Thompson, MSGT, USAF, Ret, age 92 formerly of Scott, Georgia passed away at his home in Lexington, South Carolina on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Born in Scott, Georgia, he was one of ten children born to the late Grady Lanier Thompson and Bessie Mae Haywood Thompson.  He grew up in Johnson County and was a graduate of the Adrian High School.  After high school, he attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee.  He returned home and enlisted in the United States Army where he served for eleven years before being honorably discharged.  After working for a period of time in the insurance industry, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as a Recruiter until retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1989.  After retiring, he worked with the Department of Corrections, dabbled in antiques and rental properties.

He enjoyed any time spent with a hook in the water and had been a member of the Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene in Wrightsville.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by:  a son Ricky Thompson, a daughter, Marsha Moore, an infant brother and other siblings; Grady Lanier Thompson Jr., Oscar Thompson, Percy Thompson and R.D. Thompson.

Mr. Thompson leaves behind, four children, Cindy Thompson, Dianna Molitor, Rachel Sterling, Timothy "Tim" Thompson (Lea) all of Lexington, SC, siblings; Billy Thompson (Hazel), Scott, GA, Pauline Harbin, Nashville, TN, Louise Coleman, Scott, GA, Susie Dudley, Scott, GA, grandchildren, Glen Allen Moore, Nicholas Watts, Crystal Watts, Amanda Thompson, Brittany Durdle, Hunter Sterling, many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene with Reverend L. T. Logue officiating.

Military honors will be accorded by the Warner Robins Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Mr. Thompson will be laid to rest beside his son in the Mt. Olive Church Cemetery.

His family will receive friends, on Wednesday, at the church from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
