Mrs. Margaret Ann Mathis, age 81 of Soperton passed away on Thursday evening, March 24, 2022 at Bethany Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center in Vidalia.

Born in Montgomery County, she is one of three and the last living child of the late Lenwood and Bernice Pittman Branch.  She had been a longtime resident of Soperton and had worked at Roydonwear as a Machine Operator from where she retired.  She is best remembered for her many years as Manager of the T & J Convenience Store on Hwy. 29 in Soperton, which in later years was acquired and operated by Jet Foods.

Mrs. Mathis enjoyed crocheting, word search puzzles, Bible study, visits to the Boneyard Restaurant and Jet Foods and raising turtles and cats.

She was a former member at the Soperton Church of God.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, L. D. Branch, Sue Graham and a niece, Ronda Edge.

Mrs. Mathis leaves behind her daughter, Tina Phillips (Tony), Vidalia, GA, three grandchildren, Andy Phillips (Amanda), Decatur, GA, Amy Phillips, Vidalia, GA , Ashley Phillips, Vidalia, GA, seven great grandchildren, Marissa, Jude, Jensen, Kenzleigh, Taylor, Aubree, Willow and a nephew and two nieces.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 26, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Milton Thomas officiating.

Mrs. Mathis will be laid to rest in Red Bluff Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 11:00 am until the hour of service.
