Mrs. Marilyn Gillis Henry, age 71, beloved wife of Garry Neal Henry, of the Lothair Community of Soperton, Georgia passed away peacefully at their home on Tuesday evening, March 12, 2024.
Born in Dublin, Georgia, she was the only daughter of two children born to the late Jack Alexander Gillis and Eloise Graham Gillis. She was a lifelong resident of the Lothair Community and was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, Class of 1970. She worked at Bill's Dollar Store for twenty – five years, where she was the Manager at the time of it's closing in 2001. She later worked at Farm Bureau Insurance as the Receptionist for six years and with the Headstart Educational Program for three years.
She enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, time spent with her family at the beach on Jekyll Island and caring for the birds that made their homes in the bird houses built by her husband.
As a child, she was a member of the Lothair United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harry Truman Gillis, who passed away in 2016.
Mrs. Henry leaves behind, her husband of fifty four years, Garry N. Henry, of Lothair, children, Melissa Phillips (T.J. Hudson), of Soperton, Teresa Calhoun (Jeffrey), of Soperton, Bridget Lanier (Chris), of Lothair, Ashley Thompson (Wendell), of Montgomery County, grandchildren, Shelley Phillips, Bailey Phillips (Tanner Williford), Cody Swain (Tishel Shoy), Jaden Mullis, Chelsea Clark (Ellie Crombie), C. J. Clark (Chloey), Garrett Lanier, Jackson Wilson, great grandchildren, Payton Williford, Tori Elliott, Vayda Clark, many loved extended grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Brian Graham officiating.
Mrs. Henry will be laid to rest with her parents in Westview Cemetery, Soperton, Georgia.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Tom Bush, Tony Bush, Andy Hardy, Tommy Hardy, Larry Henry, Terry Henry and Tim Henry.
Her family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home or friends and family may call at the family home.
