Martha Jo
Flanders Martin
Jan 21, 1926 — Jul 17, 2019
Columbus
Martha Jo (Flanders) Martin, 93, of Columbus, GA, and a former resident of Adrian, GA went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 17 at Columbus Hospice House. She had been a resident of Spring Harbor At Green Island since moving to Columbus in 2006 to be near her only child, JoRhee Martin Pezold and son-in-law, Jack, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Mama Jo".
A private family graveside service, followed by interment, was held at Poplar Springs Cemetery on Saturday morning, July 20 in Adrian, GA where her daughter, JoRhee, and other family members celebrated the blessing of her life and shared sweet memories.
Martha Jo was born January 21, 1926 in Adrian, GA, daughter of the late Harmon Clark Flanders and Betty Jane "Bessie" Ricks Flanders. She and her husband, Lewis, were faithful members of Adrian United Methodist Church.
She leaves behind her daughter, JoRhee Pezold and her son-in-law, John David "Jack" Pezold, as well as 3grandchildren Stephanie Celine (Pezold) Privette (Bill), John David Pezold, Jr. (Ashley) and Joshua Flanders Pezold.
Her 7 great-grandchildren are William Roy "Will" Privette, Jr., Martha Adele Privette, Helen Elizabeth Privette, Eleanor Adele Pezold, John David "Jack" Pezold, III, Hamilton Lewis Pezold and Jordan Riley Pezold.
A nephew, Thomas Lanier "Tommy" Flanders (Susan) and niece, Dianne Fountain DeMasso. A great-niece Fran Flanders Jackson (Dick), great-nephew Thomas Lanier Flanders, II (Doris) and great-niece, Cathy DeMasso Kernea (Raymond)…all of whom loved and appreciated her until the end.
In addition to her parents, Martha Jo was preceded in death in 2003 by her husband of 56 years, Lewis Edison Martin, a brother Robert Lanier "Shorty" Flanders and sisters Mary Helen (Flanders) Cook and Nancy Elizabeth (Flanders) Fountain.
The Lord blessed Martha Jo for 93 years with a healthy and wonderful life and the blessing of being surrounded by her loving family, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved and adored.
She was loved and will be missed, but we will not grieve as people who have no hope of ever seeing her again. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and we have trusted Christ as she did, we will see her again. To God Be The Glory! 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14
For those who wish to honor her memory, donations may be made to Franklin Graham Ministries/Samaritan's Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org/donate , a ministry which was dear to her heart or to a charity of your choice.
