Obituary

Mrs. Martha Ely Wood, age 67 of Soperton walked through Heaven's gates on Wednesday morning, August 11, 2021.

Born in Soperton, she was one of ten children born to the late Reverend Edward D. and Almeta Jones Ely.  She grew up and attended school in Soperton.  In 1978 she married East Dublin native Larry Phillip Wood.  Within a short amount of time her husband was saved and shortly thereafter entered the ministry, pastoring several churches through the years including Fellowship Holiness Church in Soperton, until his death.  Mrs. Wood not only served the community as a pastor's wife but also as a Parapro within the Treutlen County School System with special needs children.  She and her husband served their church together and were married for twenty six years before his passing in 2004.  She continued working with the school system until retiring in 2017.

She was a faithful member of Union Grove Calvary Holiness Church in Wrightsville, GA.

Mrs. Wood enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren, shopping, yardwork, activities with her church family and spontaneous road trips.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by siblings, Billy, Donnie, Garland and Junell Ely.

Mrs. Wood leaves behind her children, Rachael Hadley (Joey), Reverend Josh Wood (Dana), all of Soperton, siblings, Jean Kennedy, East Dublin, GA, George Ely (Joyce), Leesburg, FL, Brenda Gillis (Ray), Rincon, GA, David Ely (Wendy), Macon, GA, Judy Grimsley, Macon, Ga, grandchildren, Adalynn, Kolton, Kaison, Kamron, Bella and Onna as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 14, 2021 from the graveside in Midway Cemetery with Pastor Jim Yeomans officiating.  Mrs. Wood will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Seth Yeomans, Isaiah Yeomans, Neal Rogers, Brad Ely, T. J. Spivey, her son in law, Joey Hadley and grandsons, Kolton, Kaison and Kamron Hadley.

Any of her fellow pastor friends and spouses in the ministry are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Following the graveside service, her family will gather at 1:00 pm at the Soperton Church of God for a service of remembrance to honor her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Union Grove Calvary Holiness Church, Building Fund, 370 Union Grove Church Rd., Wrightsville, GA   31096
