Mary Hortense Kight Driggers, age 85, beloved wife of the late Charles Durrell "Puff" Driggers of Tarrytown passed away on Saturday morning, January 17, 2026 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the eldest of three children born to the late Woodrow Kight Sr., and Camleet Calhoun Kight.  As a young child, the family came to Tarrytown with her father's work in the pulpwood industry.   She was a graduate of Soperton High School, Class of 1957.  Mrs. Driggers was passionate about education and instilled that passion in the generations that followed her as well as the students that she mentored.  She attended Georgia Southern where she earned an Associate's and  Bachelor's Degrees in Early Childhood Education.  She later achieved Master's Degrees in English Education and Educational Counseling as well as a Specialist Degree in Educational Counseling, at Georgia Southern.  She worked in the Chatham County and Vidalia City School Systems for over thirty years as an Educator and Counselor.  After retiring from the school system she accepted a position with the Georgia Department of Corrections as a Counselor and Supervisor of Training.  During her tenure with the DOC, she worked at the Youth Detention Center as well as within the prisons at various locations, to include Augusta, McRae and Montgomery.

After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, jewelry and watching old western movies.

She had been a longtime member of the Soperton First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Helen Perry Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Jody Durrell Driggers and his wife, Alicia Driggers, a son in law, John Brewer Gilreath and her brother, W.R. Kight.

Affectionately referred to, by her family, as "Priss", she leaves behind her daughter, Cindi Gilreath, Tarrytown, GA; her sister, Jackie Waters, Guyton, GA; grandchildren, Jeremy Gilreath (Angel), Tarrytown, GA, Jenni Reve Snyder (Brandon), Salem, VA, Jody Gilreath (Haley), Tarrytown, GA, Megan Guin (Mike), Tarrytown, GA, Matt Driggers (Ashley), Tarrytown, GA; great grandchildren, Charlee, Caroline, Jackson, Landon, Blakelyn, Adler, Beckett, Hattie, Teagan, Maycee, Aidyn, Cash, Quinn, Hadlea, Paisley, Ford, Andee, several nieces and nephews and special family members, Ron and Pam Snyder of Soperton.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Chad Cofield and Reverend George Grimes officiating.

Mrs. Driggers will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Tarrytown Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons: Jeremy Gilreath, Jody Gilreath, Mike Guin, Brandon Snyder, Cash Driggers and Teagan Guin.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Helen Perry Sunday School Class.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 o'clock a.m. until the hour of service at Sammons Funeral Home or the family may be reached at the home of her daughter.
