Mary Nell Newsome, age 73 of Soperton passed away on Friday morning, December 8, 2023 at her home with her daughter by her side.

Born in Dublin, she was the daughter of the late Ted and Inez Brooks Lawrence.  She was a graduate of Treutlen County High School, Class of 1968.  After high school, she attended McKenzie Business School in Chattanooga, TN and Brewton Parker College in Mt. Vernon.

Mrs. Newsome had worked with the Treutlen County Board of Commissioners as the Director of the Senior Citizens Center in Soperton until retiring after twenty five years in May of 2014.

She was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and had attended the FBC of Soperton and was a member of the Soperton Church of God.

Mrs. Newsome leaves behind: her children, Addie Paige Newsome, Soperton, GA, Larry Joe Newsome Jr., Marysville, WA, siblings, Ted Lawrence Jr. (Helen), Lyons, GA, Terresa Braswell (Dennis), Rockledge, FL, Gail Silvers (Jerry), Soperton, GA, two grandchildren, Larry Joe "L.J." Newsome III and Jane Newsome as well as her canine pet, Lucy and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Newsome will be laid to rest beside her grandfather in Westview Cemetery in a family service with Revered Milton Thomas officiating.
