A service to commemorate the life of Mrs. Mary Elsa "Elsie" Cauley Smith, age 87, beloved wife of William Hardy Smith of Tarrytown, will be held at 11:00 am on Sunday, June 8, 2025 at the Rosemont Baptist Church, in the Rosemont Community of Soperton, Georgia.   Mrs. Smith passed away on Tuesday morning, May 13, 2025 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.

Born in Montgomery County, she was the youngest and last living of five children born to the late Will Cauley and Flossie Edge Cauley.  She grew up in the Bear Creek Community and was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County.  In 1959, she married William Hardy Smith and they together worked and raised three children.  Mrs. Smith had served as Postmaster of the Tarrytown Post Office for many years before retiring.  She and her husband were the models of a "match made in heaven".  They were dedicated to each other, their children and their extended family.  They always provided a home for anyone that might show up, in need.

Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, reading and fishing.  She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many of her family's clothes.

She and Mr. Smith had been longtime members at Rosemont Baptist Church in Treutlen County.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Louise Palmer, "Sonny Man" Cauley, Annie Reynolds and Preston Cauley.

She leaves behind, her husband of sixty six years, William H. Smith, Tarrytown, GA, their son, Wendell Alan Smith (Wendy), Montrose, GA, their daughters, Patricia Howard (Dan), Gray, GA, Ellen Clifton (Steven), Dublin, GA, grandchildren, Jackson Smith, Carson Smith, Caroline Smith, Scott Howard, Madison Howard, a great grandchild, Jude Howard and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her son, Wendell, passed away a mere hours after his mother.

Mrs. Smith was laid to rest on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Dublin Memorial Gardens with her nephew, Reverend Byron Smith officiating.
