Obituary

Mrs. Maxine S. Griner, age 66, beloved wife of Russell Griner of Soperton, passed away on Thursday evening, August 20, 2020 at their home.

Born in McRae, Georgia, she was the eldest of three children born to the late Strozier Mack Selph and Willie Pearl Hilliard Selph. She grew up in Ailey and attended school in Mt. Vernon where she played basketball. She had lived in Mt. Vernon for approximately 23 years until moving to Soperton in 1995. Affectionately known by many as "Lady Shade Tree", she started driving dump trucks in 1988 and over the years progressed to driving log trucks, until retiring earlier this year.   In 1995 she married longtime friend, Russell Griner. They owned Po' Folks Racing and made many memories around the dirt track with their racing family and friends. Mrs. Griner not only loved her dirt track racing, but also fishing, time with her family, Fox News and her daily Coca Cola.

She had attended Snowhill Community Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, J. D. Brantley, an uncle, Billy Hilliard and a grand daughter, Amanda Suarez.

Mrs. Griner leaves behind, her husband of 25 years, Russell Griner, children, Lisa Beasley, Glenwood, GA, Ricky Brantley (Barbara), Mt. Vernon, GA, Bobby Nell West (Grady "Bam Bam"), Glenwood, Talina Griner, Dublin, GA, Belinda King (Joseph), Vidalia, GA, Russell Craig Griner (Jodi), Soperton, Cale Curtis, Soperton, GA, her brother, Mike Selph (Rosalee), Mr. Vernnon, GA, her sister, Debra Spivey (James), Rentz, GA, her fur baby, Rudy Griner, nineteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 23, 2020 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend LaDon Connell officiating.

Mrs. Griner will be laid to rest in Mr. Vernon Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home or friends may call at the residence.

Attendees of either event will be required to wear facial coverings.
