Mrs. Maxine Goss Herndon, age 74 of Soperton passed away on Thursday, November 28,2024 at Bethany Oaks Assisted Living in Vidalia.

Born in Uvalda, she was the middle child of three born to the late Doy Elmer Goss and Mary Etter Willis Goss.  She grew up in the Cedar Crossing / Toombs County area and worked at the softball factory in Vidalia.  She married Jimmy Herndon in the early 1980s and relocated to Treutlen County.  She worked with Easter Seals in Soperton until retiring in the 2000s.

Mrs. Herndon enjoyed family gatherings, fishing, visiting various restaurants, and special times with her children and grandchildren.  Her family recalls special memories of her quilting, making them quilts and blankets and gathering as a family to shell and prepare peas and beans.

Mrs. Herndon was a former member of the Zaidee Advent Christian Church in the Zaidee Community.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Herndon, a daughter, Sharon Gillis and her brother, Buddy Goss.

She leaves behind, her children, Patty Hester (James), Soperton, GA, Boris Jay Kersey, Lyons, GA, Henry Doyle Herndon (Melissa), Rockledge, GA, her sister, Louise Powell (Olin), Waverly Hall, GA, grandchildren, John Gillis Jr., Eric Gillis, Jeff Gillis, Marie Stevens, Trent E. Hester, Buddy D. Hester, Mitchell Kersey, Samuel Kersey, Aaron Kersey, Kaitlyn Herndon, Breanna Travis, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A time of remembrance, reflection and celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the home of her grandson Buddy Hester.  All family and friends are invited to attend.
