Obituary

Moena Maddox Wilkes, age 76, formerly of the Bear Creek Community, in Montgomery County, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at her home in Warner Robins, Georgia.

Born in Wheeler County, she was the second born and oldest daughter of thirteen children born to the late John Alex Maddox and Addie Eudell Farmer Maddox.  As an infant the family moved to the Bear Creek Community.  She attended school in Mt. Vernon while working on the family farm and helping raise her younger siblings.  In April of 1966 she married and later worked at Oxford Manufacturing in Vidalia.  Her husband enlisted in the USAF which began a life of moves, for the family, to accommodate his military assignments.  During her husband military career, they lived on many different locales to include: Savannah, GA, Oklahoma City, OK, Anchorage, AL, Jacksonville, FL, McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and Charleston, SC before settling in Warner Robins in January of 1979, with his assignment to Robins Air Force Base.   In the 1980s she worked at Levi Clothing in Macon before accepting civilian employment at Warner Robins Air Force Base with AAFES, in the various retail sites for the enlisted families on base.   She retired from Robins in the early 2000s.

She possessed a giving spirit that she openly shared along with her faith and love for her Lord, Jesus Christ.  She enjoyed people, sharing conversation and time spent with her network of friends and large family.

As a child, she and her family attended Bear Creek Baptist Church and after settling in Warner Robins, she attended Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by siblings, Clifton Maddox, Ray Maddox, Barbara Grinstead, Jeanette Spivey, Adie Maddox, a brother in law, Jerry Price and a sister in law, Patsy Maddox.

She leaves behind, her former husband and the father of her sons, Lee Otis Wilkes Jr., Bonaire, GA, her two sons, Ricky Lee Wilkes, Bonaire, GA, Anthony Brian "Andy" Wilkes (Linda), McDonough, GA, siblings, Ann Price, Mt. Vernon, GA, Mary Jane Crabb (John), Hazlehurst, GA, Troy Maddox, Soperton, GA, Harold Maddox (Genna), Bronson, FL, Alvin Maddox (Linda), Soperton, GA, Judy Maddox, Mt. Vernon, GA, Melba Conner, Toccoa, GA and countless nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 10, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Paul Mulling officiating.  Her nephew, Reverend Troy Maddox will conduct the committal services at the graveside.

She will be laid to rest with her parents in the Bazel – Connell Family Cemetery off Bear Creek Road in Montgomery County.

Her family will receive friends on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 o'clock p.m. until the hour of service.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Henry Price, William Price, Ethan Price, Terry Mathis, D. J. Brantley and Alan Bridges.
