Nell Duke Absher, age 93 of the Orianna Community near Soperton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, January 26, 2024, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia.

Born in Treutlen County on December 3, 1930, she was the eldest of three daughters born to the late Walter Prescott Duke and Pauline Thigpen Duke.   She grew up in the Orianna Community and was a graduate of Soperton High School, Class of 1947.  She attended Georgia State College and was an amazing stay-at-home Mom.  Nell made her home in many cities, living in Macon, GA, Savannah, GA, Columbus, GA, Alexandria, VA, Washington, DC, East Point, GA, Lebanon, OH, Houston, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, Cedartown, GA and Atlanta, GA, before returning to her beloved homeplace.

Nell was a longtime member of Lothair Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, The Order of the Eastern Star, and Cancer Support Group.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by David Lee Absher, Eric Slater, Jr. (nephew), and Marilyn Absher Beringer (sister-in-law).

Miss Nell leaves behind her sisters, June Duke Slater, Orianna Community, GA, Margaret Duke Brantley (Floyd), Tarrytown, GA, her children Charles D. Absher (Lindy Newman), Avondale Estates, GA, Walter L. Absher (Patti), Tucker, GA, Kathy A. Haynes (Harry III), Soperton, GA, Jill A. Patton, Summerville, SC, her grandchildren, Emily Platt (Steve), Amanda Hendricks (Doug), Jessica Ross (Chris), Prescott Absher (Kohl), Tara McCormick (Kevin), Harry Haynes IV (Catie), Hudson Haynes, Marisa Andrews (Chris), Courtney Patton, her great grandchildren, Julian Platt, Charlie Platt, Liam Ross, Kabler Hendricks, Levi Ross, Camille Ross, Callie McCormick, Jason McCormick, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 am on Monday, January 29, 2024, at Lothair Methodist Church with Reverend Tommy Veal officiating.

Nell will be laid to rest in Fowler Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Duane Ricks, Keith Ricks, Ryan Ricks, Lay McLendon, Alan McLendon, and Todd Kelley.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, at the church, from 10:00 am until the hour of service.  Friends and family may call at the family homeplace in Orianna as well.
