Obituary

Mr. Paul Young, age 85, beloved husband of Virginia Hester Young of the Minter Community of East Dublin passed away on Wednesday morning, January 26, 2022 at their home.

Born in Laurens County, he was one of six children born to the Late Henry and Leitha Fulford Young.  Mr. Young was Operator of Young's Grocery in Minter until its closing in 1973.  After closing the store, he was employed with Laurens County before joining the Georgia State Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer from which he retired in 2001.

After retiring, Mr. Paul enjoyed his daily ritual of lunch and watching the "Price Is Right".  Some of his favorite activities were cutting grass, tinkering with his tractor and four-wheeler.

A Man of His Word; Mr. Paul was a dedicated Christian that was committed to serving his church, family, and community. He served many roles in the church including Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Sunday School Director.  He was also the cemetery sexton, longtime grounds keeper and in charge of church maintenance for many years.

A man of faith, Mr. Paul always kept his priorities in the order of God first, Family second, followed by his Church.  He led a structured life, but wherever his structure may have been taking him; if his great granddaughter Harper showed up, all structure was forgotten.  Harper was the "Apple of His Eye" and would change his demeanor in a moment.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Ritchie who passed away in 2005 and brothers, Preston, Zilmon and Cessum Young.

Mr. Paul leaves behind his wife of fifty- nine years, Virginia "Ginger" Young, of Minter, their daughter, Terrie Young- Graham and her husband, Steve, of East Dublin, GA, two sisters, Fannie Mae Stewart of Minter, Nell Maddox of Milledgeville, five grandchildren, Mason Young, Colby Young, Ben Graham, Rebekah Graham, Rachel Graham, a special great- granddaughter, Harper Tanner and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Blue Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Ben Edwards and Pastor W. L. Curry officiating.

Mr. Young will be laid to rest in Blue Springs Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Dan Young, Carnage Young, Tommy Holmes, Timmy Oliver, Jamie Mills and Randy Graham.

His family will receive friends on Friday, at the church, from 1:00 o'clock until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Blue Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, Gideons International or Georgia Baptist Children's Home.

Please share a memory, leave a condolence and sign the online guest register.
