Obituary

While surrounded by her family, on Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025, Mrs. Peggy Ann Woods, age 82,  beloved wife of James W. Woods, passed away at their home in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, Florida.

Born in Dublin, Georgia, she was the only daughter of two children born to the late Jean Barnard Baggett and Reva Williams Baggett.  She attended school in Laurens County and in 1963 married Laurens County native, James Wendell Woods.  The newlyweds made their first home in Bainbridge, Georgia where her husband was assigned with his employment with Seaboard Airline Railroad, which would later become CSX.  They lived in various locales with her husband's career until settling in Fernandina Beach in 1976.  Mrs. Woods had worked in the Grocery Store Industry for over thirty years; initially with Pantry Pride and Big Star before joining Food Lion where she was the Delicatessen Manager, until retiring in the early 1990s.

Mrs. Woods had been a longtime member at Bible Baptist Church in Fernandina Beach.

She and her husband enjoyed raising their four children on Amelia Island but after retiring, they found true joy in time spent with their grand and great grandchildren.  Mrs. Woods enjoyed time sewing, arranging flowers and working with crafts.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Baggett.

Mrs. Woods leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of sixty one years, James W. Woods, Fernandina Beach, FL, their children: twin daughters, Brenda Woods Cox (Roger), Jacksonville, FL and Glenda Woods, Elburn, IL; their third child, daughter, Christy Woods, Fernandina, Beach, FL and their youngest child, a son, Tim Woods, also of Fernandina Beach, FL, sisters in law, Faye Woods Thigpen, Rockledge, GA and Trudy Baggett, Warner Robins, GA, seven grandchildren, Allie, Elyse, Brandon, Ansley, Jordan, Jared , Abbie, seven great grandchildren, five nieces and six nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 o'clock p. m. on Thursday, May 1, 2025 from the graveside in the Thigpen Cemetery in Rockledge, Georgia with Reverend Barbara Nelson officiating.

Her family will receive friends on Thursday at the graveside.
