Mrs. Pernette Powell, age 89 of Soperton passed away on Sunday afternoon, September 9, 2018 at the Macon Medical Center in Macon, Georgia.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Conway Jones officiating.

Mrs. Powell will be laid to rest beside her husband in Harmony Church Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, at the funeral home, from 2:00 pm until the hour of service.

Born in Treutlen County she was one of six children born to the late James Allen "Rabbit" Morris and Emma Jane Meeks. She grew up in Soperton where she was a graduate of Treutlen County High School. In 1946 she married Horace Lee Powell. They raised their children in Soperton and were longtime members at Harmony Baptist Church. Mrs. Powell was presently a member at First Baptist Church of Soperton. She enjoyed container gardening, working cross word and jigsaw puzzles as well as feeding and watching the cardinals in her yard and painting landscapes.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Lee Powell Sr., who passed away in 2000, two brothers, Arthur and Jerome Morris and a sister, Francis Findley.

She is survived by a son, Horace Lee Powell Jr., Claxton, GA, four daughters, Vivien McMahon (Robert), Boone, NC, Katie Hummel, Atlanta, GA, Robin Lawhon (Don), East Dublin, GA, Mary Jane Christopher (Scott), Atlanta, GA, a brother, Tunney Morris and a sister, Lennie Vaughn, both of Vidalia, GA, seventeen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, a great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
