Phyllis
Chafin
Aug 4, 1957 — Mar 18, 2022
Dublin
Phyllis Chafin, APRN, age 64 of Dublin passed away on Friday morning, March 18, 2022 at Memorial Health in Savannah.
Born in Soperton, she was one of three children born to Editha Faye Hester Chafin and the late Clifford Chafin. Phyllis grew up in Rockledge and was a graduate of East Laurens High School, Class of 1975. After high school Phyllis attended Georgia State Women's College in Milledgeville where she began her Nursing career. She then attended Georgia Baptist College of Nursing in Atlanta where she earned her BSN. She furthered her education, earning her Master's Degree and becoming a Nurse Practitioner. During her many years in healthcare, she worked at Claxton Hospital, Laurens County Hospital, Fairview Park, worked in Labor and Delivery, the Emergency Room, Internal Medicine, was Nursing Supervisor and most recently served patients at Accordia Urgent Care and Southeastern Immediate Care in Dublin. Phyllis was a sacrificial team member, never wanting any recognition for herself but always putting the care and concern of others first. She enjoyed traveling; especially on mission trips to the Navajo Reservation where she could minister to other's spiritual needs as well as their physical needs. She was small in stature but stood head and shoulders above others in character and her level of commitment to her patients. She was genteel by nature but could be as forceful as might be needed when making her point. She just might have had a clumsy streak, but that was Phyllis and part of what made her so loveable.
Phyllis was a faithful member at Blue Springs Baptist Church and carried the same testimony and love for the Lord everyday; not just on Sunday's.
In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her brother, Leland Clifford Chafin, her maternal grandparents, Dewey Lee Hester Sr. and Georgie Walker Hester and her paternal grandparents, John and Lillie Wynn Chafin.
Phyllis leaves behind, her mother, Editha Hester Chafin, Rockledge, GA, her sister, Suzanne Chafin Keene (Marty), Lothair Community, Soperton, GA, two nephews, Justin Chafin (Chelsea), Josh Chafin (Ashley), a niece, Crissy Chafin, seven great nieces and nephews, Brayden, Caedon, Maxx, Abby, Emma, Ethan and Anna Kate and countless others that have adopted Phyllis in her church community as well as those in the Dublin medical community.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at Blue Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Allen, Reverend Ben Edwards and Reverend W. L. Currie officiating.
Phyllis will be laid to rest in Blue Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends on Monday, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at BoJo's, 102 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, GA 31021.
