Obituary

Mr. Randolph "Randy" Simons, age 64, formerly of Soperton, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 25, 2018 at his Richmond Hill, Georgia home.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverends Mark Sweat and Donnie Crosby, officiating.

Randy will be laid to rest in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

His family will receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 2:00 pm until the hour service.

Born in Soperton, he was the son of Edwina Horton Simons and the late Wyman Simons. Randy grew up in Soperton and was a graduate of Treutlen High School, Class of 1971 where he was the Star Student. After high school he attended Swainsboro Technical School where he majored in Electronics after which time he worked for Moxley's Television and Appliance in Kibbee. In 1975 Randy began a long career with the U. S. Postal Service beginning in Soperton as a Clerk and City Carrier. In 1988 he accepted the position as Postmaster in Ellabell, GA. Randy later moved, as Post Master, to the Richmond Hill and Bloomingdale Post Offices before retiring in August of 2010. After retiring, he worked for a short time with the Department of Natural Resources in Richmond Hill.

While living in Soperton, Randy was a member of Harmony Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacons, Director of the Royal Ambassadors and the church Youth Group Director.

His father, Wyman Simons, passed away in 2008.

Affectionately known as "NeeNee" and "Grandaddy", he is survived by his wife, Bonnie Simons, Richmond Hill, GA, his mother, Edwina Simons Hester (Gene), Soperton, GA, children, Brad Simons (Tracey), Statesboro, GA, Brian Simons (Darlene), Statesboro, GA, Chris Gardner (Kathie), Fleming, GA, Valerie Caggiano (Rocco), Columbus, GA, his two brothers, Andy Simons (Jennifer), Soperton, GA, Ricky Simons (Kathy), Soperton, GA, nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Robert Bridges, Gerald Shurling, Doug Davis, Dave Walker, Wayne Sumner and David Fowler.
