Mr. Rayford "Ray" Mercer Hutcheson, age 88, beloved husband of the late Daisy Alice Gray Hutheson of Soperton passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 4, 2026 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.
Born in Toombs County, he was one of nine children born to the late William Brown Hutcheson and Stella Mae Hutcheson. He grew up in Toombs County where he attended Toombs Central School. The family later moved to Soperton and he attended the Treutlen County School System. In the mid 1950's he moved to the Orlando area of Central Florida where he met, Mississippi native, Daisy A. Gray, that he would marry in 1958. The Hutcheson's made their home in the Orlando area until retiring and returning to Soperton in 1999. During the boom years in Orlando, Mr. Hutcheson worked primarily as a Carpenter, completing both residential and commercial projects.
Mr. Hutcheson enjoyed being out-doors and was particularly fond of fishing and hunting.
While living in Florida, he was affiliated with the Worldwide Church of God. After settling back in Soperton, he and his wife attended the Zaidee Advent Christian Church.
In addition to his parents and his wife, who passed away in 2012, he is preceded in death by two sons, Anthony (Tony) Ray Hutcheson and James Clark; siblings, Van Hutcheson, Billy Hutcheson, Neal Hutcheson, Kelly Hutcheson, Hayford Hutcheson and Carol Coleman.
Mr. Hutcheson leaves behind, his children, Cindy Hutcheson, Nathan Hutcheson (Linda M.), Thomas "Tom" Hutcheson and Timithy "Tim" Hutcheson (Eri), all of Orlando, FL; siblings, Janette Holt, Soperton, GA, Randy Hutcheson, Soperton, GA, Patricia Dykes, Vidalia, GA; grandchildren, Jamie, Jason, Casey, Kenny, Amber, Lindsey, Rio; three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from the graveside in Hutcheson Cemetery with Pastor M. L. Barber officiating.
Mr. Hutcheson will be laid to rest beside his wife.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Jarred Powell, Blake Hutcheson, Randall Hutcheson, Brian Watts, Lamar Hutcheson and Chase Wattts.
His family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Sammons Funeral Home.
