Rubye Jean Henry, age 74, beloved daughter of the late Gilbert Newton and Ruby Gillis Henry of Soperton passed away on Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2020 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

She was born in Treutlen County and was the youngest of three children in her family. Rubye Jean grew up in Soperton and became a hairstylist and, like her mother, an accomplished musician.   She had been a hair stylist since the age of 16; winning many awards and working at shops in Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Vidalia, Brunswick and Soperton.   She sang and played at churches, restaurants and clubs throughout the southeast. She and her sister, Teeny, and a niece, Becky Shuman, often traveled to Nashville to record music together. Rubye Jean was an "undiscovered" musical talent with an incredible voice and equally impressive piano playing skills.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her older brother, Pope Henry of Jesup, GA, who passed away in 1991 and her older sister Teeny Shuman of Hagan, GA, who passed away in 2010.

Rubye Jean leaves behind ten nieces and nephews: Henry Shuman (Marjorie), Hagan, GA, Harry Shuman, Atlanta, GA, Becky Shuman, Patsy Shuman, Randy Shuman all of Hagan, GA, Jimmy Shuman (Lori), Duluth, GA, Michael Henry (Janice), Lake Murray, SC, David Henry (Tina), Lake Sinclair / Milledgeville, GA, Cindy Henry Jarrard (Terry), Odum, GA, Robert Henry, Statesboro, GA, her wonderfully devoted friend and companion, Gene Stewart and many friends and extended family members.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from the graveside in Westview Cemetery in Soperton with Reverend Paul Beasley officiating.

Rubye Jean will be laid to rest beside her parents.

Her family will receive guests at the graveside and requests that facial coverings be worn and that social distancing be practiced and respected.
