Obituary

Mrs. Sandra Jean Hoffman, age 83 formerly of Thomaston, CT passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, July 15, 2021 at the home of her daughter in Tarrytown, Georgia.

Born in Middletown, CT, she was one of eight children and the only daughter born to the late Wesley Everett Barrett and Ella Mertie Roberts.  She and her brothers grew up in a farming family in Lebanon, CT.  She was a graduate of Durham High School, Class of 1956.  After high school, she began a long career in Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at Meriden Hospital until joining the Plymouth Board of Education and serving as the School Nurse at many of the schools in Plymouth and Terryville.  After over thirty years of caring for and mentoring four generations of Terryville students,  Mrs. Hoffman retired as the school nurse.  Upon request of the school board and her unending love for her students, she agreed to remain employed, but as a hall monitor, until completely retiring in 2015.

She and her husband Jim had been lifelong residents of Thomaston until moving to Tarrytown, Georgia to be near their daughter.

A wonderful cook; she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, golfing, bowling, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

She and her husband had attended the First Congregational Churches in Terryville and Thomaston.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Renwood Jecusco, James Barrett and Stephen Jecusco.

Mrs. Hoffman leaves behind, her husband of sixty years, Terryville native, James E. "Jim" Hoffman, Tarrytown, GA, their son, Greg Hoffman and wife Terry, Southington, CT, their daughter, Tracy Kight and husband Cale, Tarrytown, GA, four brothers, Rodney Barrett, Seminole, FL, Wesley Barrett, Misquamicut, RI, Jeffrey Barrett and wife Sofie, Perry, GA, Warren Barrett and wife Kathleen, Port Angeles, WA, six grandchildren, Sarah Dlugoszewski and husband Scott, Southington, CT, Douglas Hoffman and wife Katie, Southington, CT, Alex Doe and husband Nathan, Charlton, MA, Jordan Hoffman Sconziano, Tarrytown, GA, Jaimee Hoffman Sconziano, Tarrytown, GA, Jacob Hoffman Sconziano, Tarrytown, GA, three great grandchildren, Wesley, Leah and Esther and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hoffman will be laid to rest at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, Plymouth, CT.
