Stig
Askeland

Soperton
USCG Capt. Stig Askeland, age 63, beloved husband of Jackie Wiggins Askeland, of the Lothair Community of Soperton, Georgia passed away at their home on Wednesday morning, September 10, 2025.
Born in Bergen, Norway, he was one of four children born to John Askeland and the late Oddny Agnes Eriksen Askeland. At the age of two, his family came to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York before moving to Massachusetts. As a teenager, he returned to Norway to complete high school and earn his degree in Engineering and Design. He returned to the United States and worked in the automotive industry, specializing in high end import vehicles, for many years. Mr. Askeland had lived and worked for many years in Stuart, FL, Macon, GA, and Charleston, SC before settling in Savannah, GA for over twenty years. He and his wife had returned to her childhood home, of Lothair in Soperton, within the past year.
He loved the coastal areas of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina where he created a lifetime of boating memories with his family. Mr. Askeland enjoyed off shore fishing and had participated in the Savannah Boat Parade of Lights on the Savannah water front for many years; which he won on five different occasions. In later years, as his health began to decline, he was asked to serve as a judge of the entrants of the parade. He was accomplished at Darts and competed at the League level. He was happiest when smoking meat and preparing a meal for his family, which he did at every opportunity. His wife will cherish their times of sitting together on their porch, admiring the Cardinal families and their young, as they hatched and grew to maturity.
Mr. Askeland leaves behind his wife, Jackie Wiggins Askeland, his father, John Askeland, both of Soperton, GA , children, Erik Askeland, Waterville, ME, Shawn Williamson (Lacey), Macon, GA, Travis Williamson, Summerville, SC, Daniel Williamson, Summerville, SC, siblings, Frank Askeland (Beverly), Green Cove Springs, FL, Liz Jarvis (David), Port Charlotte, FL, Jack Askeland (Amy), Anchorage, AL, five grandchildren, Emma Williamson, Kamryn Springer Williamson, Krymsen Williamson, Arya Williamson, Kai Williamson and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to commemorate his life will be held at 2:00 o'clock p.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2025 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home.
His family will receive friends, at Sammons Funeral Home, on Saturday the 27th day of September from 1:00 o'clock p. m. until the hour of service.
