Mrs. Susie Lee Watkins, age 96 of Adrian passed away on Wednesday evening, February 16, 2022 at her home.
Born in Johnson County, she was one of eight children born to the late Tee Durden and Mattie Lou Toler Durden. Mrs. Watkins has lived in the Adrian / Johnson County area for most of her life. She had worked at the Shirt Factory in Swainsboro, the Pants Factory in Wrightsville and devoted another twenty years to the care of patients and residents at the Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Centers in Johnson and Treutlen Counties, until retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Watkins has been a longtime, faithful member of the Norristown Revival Center; which she helped keep clean until within the past few weeks.
She enjoyed yardwork, tending to her flowers, fishing, cooking and quilting; which she taught to many of her grandchildren and other family members.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Grover Rabon Watkins, who passed away in 1994 and two sons, Charles Wesley Watkins, who passed away in 2021 and Willie Lee Watkins siblings, Ollie Mae Blaxton, Katie Pearl Sellers, Tommy Durden, Mark Durden, Frank Durden and a grandson Mitchell Watkins.
Mrs. Watkins leaves behind, two sons, Donnie Rabon Watkins (Annette), Adrian, GA, G. C. Watkins (Shirley), Forsyth, GA, a daughter, Ann Beck (Bill), Adrian, GA, a daughter in law, Angie Watkins, Adrian, GA, a grandson that she raised as a son, Lee Watkins, (Laurie), Soperton, GA, three sisters, Versie Coleman, Swainsboro, GA, Rosie Stevens, Milledgeville, GA, Vera Brightwell, Swainsboro, GA, ,fourteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, twenty one great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Jack Stafford officiating.
Miss Susie will be laid to rest beside her husband in Heath Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday from 2:30 pm until the hour of service, at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Wesley Watkins, Cooper Jump, Hunter Jackson, Gary Green, Jared Watkins and Justin Watkins.
