Ms. Sylvia Rogers Norris, age 82 of Soperton passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 31, 2024 at the Treutlen County Health and Rehabilitation Center in Soperton.
Born in Dublin, she was one of six children born to the late Curtis Judson Rogers Sr. and Mary Lucile Page Rogers. She grew up in Treutlen County and was a graduate of Soperton High School, Class of 1960. After high school, she attended trade school in Dublin for a short time while working in Soperton at Fowler's Cotton Gin, Plant Telephone, and the Firestone Store, before accepting employment as a Receptionist at the Treutlen County Hospital. In 1976 she joined the Office of the Treutlen County Board of Commissioners where she served and retired as the Clerk for the Board of Commissioners in the mid 2000s.
She was a lifelong resident of Soperton; living within earshot of where she was raised and where her present residence was on the family homestead.
Ms. Norris was a member of the Soperton First Baptist Church, and she enjoyed growing flowers, especially yellow roses, and preparing Sunday dinners for her family.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Rogers, and a sister, Peggy Barrick.
Ms. Norris leaves behind, her children, Mary Jane Corbin (Tommy) and Barry Norris (Rhonda), all of Soperton. She also leaves siblings, Joy "Skeeter" Garner, Orianna Community, Sarah Cauley (Wayne), Lothair community, Johnnie Brooks (Kenny), Soperton, GA, a sister in law, Jeannie Rogers, Lothair community, a brother in law, Kenny Barrick, Soperton, GA, grandchildren, Bradley Corbin, Connor Corbin, Landry Norris, Anslee Norris and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend Mark Sweat officiating.
Ms. Norris will be laid to rest in the Orianna Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Ronny Barrick, Al Garner, Carey Cauley, Jason Brooks, Jody Rogers, Jimmy Garner and Luke Brooks.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday at Sammons Funeral Home from 2:00 pm until the hour of service or friends and family may call at the home of her son.
