Mr. Ted Randolph Brown, Sr., age 69 passed away on Friday morning, January 19, 2024 at the Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina. Born in Laurens County, he was one of twelve children born to the late Terrence Vinson "T. V." Brown and Mildred Jackson Brown Payne. He attended school at East Laurens and enlisted in the United States Navy at the age eighteen. He served in Vietnam as a SEABEE and became certified as an open water scuba diver before being honorably discharged in 1974. Upon returning home; he married and had three beautiful children; Ted Jr., Kelly Michelle and Penny Nicole. Ted worked as a Welder and worked many plant and mill shutdowns and refabrication projects throughout the eastern U.S. He settled in Rockledge in the mid 1980s and worked with Shaw Steel at Southeast Paper in East Dublin. He moved to Lexington, SC in the late 1980s and worked as an Owner / Operator, hauling wood chips for M. L. Corey and Sons, running heavy equipment while continuing to working shutdowns. As a tractor trailer Owner/ Operator, he logged over 14 million miles of driving.
Ted enjoyed the simple things in life; being with his family, sitting around a fire, playing his harmonica, traveling and yardwork. He had a big heart for all mankind and constantly looked for someone that he could help lighten their load. He will be missed immensely by those that knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Glyn Gregory Brown, Glynn Patrick Brown and Jacky Samuel Brown.
Ted leaves behind: his son, Ted R. Brown Jr. (Crystal), Lexington, SC, his daughters, Kelly Thompson (Jerome), Ashburn, VA, Penny Hutchinson (Joel), Palatka,FL, three brothers, Teddy Brown, Orlando, FL , Ronnie Brown, East Dublin, GA, Greg Brown, Montrose, GA, six sisters, Sheila Greer, Dublin, GA, Kay Scarborough (Jimmy), Dublin, GA, Susan Knight (Raymond), Dexter, GA, Jerrie Brown, East Dublin, GA, Allison Lumley (Tim), East Dublin, GA, Angie Shortland (Terry), Dallas, GA, grandchildren, Carlei Gregg, Lindsei Newton, Olivia Brown, Madison Brown, Jerome Thompson Jr., Jerica Thompson, Will Yancey (Haylie), Cameron Daniel (Destiny), Kendall Hutchinson, Lanie Hutchinson, Mackenzie Hutchinson, Joel Hutchinson Jr., great grandchildren, Tyrone Levi Gregg, Travis Yancey and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Ted's brother in law, Pastor Tim Lumley officiating.
Ted will be laid to rest beside his mother and father in the Rosemont Baptist Church Cemetery in Soperton, Georgia.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Will Yancey, Jerome Thompson Jr., Cameron Daniel, Ben Barton, Eric Scarborough and Carlo A. Berardo.
His family will receive friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 o'clock pm until the hour of service.
