Mrs. Velma Beasley Polletta, age 78 of Soperton passed away on Monday morning, December 16, 2024 at the home of her son.
Born in Soperton, she was the eldest of seven children in her family. At a young age the family moved to Ocala, Florida, with her father's work. They later lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Jesup. Georgia. While living in Jesup, she married Treutlen County native, Herman Evans Beasley. The newlyweds returned to Soperton where they made their home. Miss Velma worked as a Seamstress for a time at the Soperton Shirt Factory which would later become Woolrich. In 2015, after over fifty years of marriage, Mr. Beasley passed away. In 2017 she married Thomas Charles Polletta. They remained in Treutlen County making their home in the Oglethorpe Community. Mr. Polletta passed away in 2022.
Miss Velma enjoyed fishing, riding on motorcycles; she was accomplished at quilting, crocheting, painting and drawing. She enjoyed old time gospel music and singing her favorites as her son would accompany her on his guitar and was always ready for a trip to The Great Smoky Mountains.
In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her parents, Sewell Beasley Sr. and Nancy Champion, siblings, Sewell Beasley Jr. and Polly Nelms as well as a daughter, Cynthia Marie Beasley.
She leaves behind: her children, Karen Beasley (Wayne Kersey), Soperton, GA, Wanda Phillips (Troy), Zaidee Community of Soperton, GA, Travis Beasley (Debbie), Oglethorpe Community of Soperton and Velina Meeks (Damien), Elberton, GA. She also leaves her siblings, Sandy Stevens, Homer Beasley (Judy), Hank Beasley, Patsy Beasley, grandchildren, Richard Kemp, Faith Watson, Tosha Grace (Jessie),Troy Phillips Jr. (April), Anna Livingston (Jonathan), Joshua Beasley (MiKayla), Kaleena King (Julian), Kayla Beasley (David), Matthew Teruel (Anna), Cynthia Steptoe (Ricky Johnson), DeVan Steptoe (Christian),Delilah Clements, Sophyra Clements, Victoria Lawrence (Chris), great grandchildren, Lucas Livingston, Tegan Phillips. Aspen Phillips, Laci Pope (Daniel), Jayla Lively, Scarlet Beasley, Skyler Beasley, Gracie Beasley, David Layne Beasley, Easton Teruel, Haizley King, Colby Beasley, Fisher Mangham, Shannon "Bug" Beasley, Ezra Steptoe, Harper Steptoe, Amelia Steptoe, Cayden Steptoe, Kimmee Lawrence, Penny Lawrence, Billy Lawrence, Bentlee Phillips, Lillian Grace, Madelyn Grace, Alexis Kemp, Ethan Kemp, a great great grandchild, Greyson Pope and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Hammock officiating.
Mrs. Polletta will be laid to rest between her husbands in the Beasley Family Cemetery in Treutlen County.
Her family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home.
