Obituary

Mrs. Vera Wilson Green, age 84, formerly of Griffin, GA, passed away on Friday morning, May 11, 2018 at the Riverside Nursing Home in Thomaston, GA.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 14, 2018 in the chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, GA.

Mrs. Green will be laid to rest beside her sister in Ricksville Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends on Monday, at the funeral home, from 1:00 pm until the hour of the service.

Born in Savannah, GA, she was the eldest of three daughters born to the late Ivey and Flora Ricks Wilson. As a young child her family moved to Adrian where she and her sisters grew up and attended the Adrian Schools. While in high school she was a star basketball player and leading scorer.
Upon graduation, she enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict as an assistant to the Adjutant General while continuing to star in Women's basketball. After 2 years of active duty she was honorably discharged and returned home to Adrian. She worked at the Woolen Mill in Dublin where she met Edwin Green whom she would marry in 1956. The Greens lived in Tampa for a short time before relocating to Griffin, GA in 1970. While living in Griffin, Mrs. Green coached a Women's League Basketball team and raised their two children.

Her husband passed away in 2007. In the most recent years, she has resided in assisted living facilities near her children.

Mrs. Green had attended floral designing and decorating school in Atlanta and enjoyed crafts, drawing, painting and crocheting. She was an avid animal lover that would put their needs above her own.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a sister, Ann Freymuth.

She is survived by: her son, Mike Green (Cynthia), Concord, GA, her daughter, Lisa Bevel (Ron),
Yatesville, GA, a sister, Helen Walker, Savannah, GA, four grandchildren, Jennifer, Justin, Jeremy, Brittany, three great grandchildren, Presley, Lincoln and Piper as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
