Mrs. Verle Salter Moore McGowan, age 89, formerly of Soperton passed away on Monday afternoon, June 25, 2018 at The Oaks Bethany Nursing Home in Vidalia.

Funeral services and receiving of friends will be on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Aimwell Calvary Holiness Church, 2381 Aimwell Road, Vidalia, GA 30474 from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm with Pastors Andrew Bellah and David Yawn officiating.

Mrs. Moore McGowan will be laid to rest in the Midway Cemetery, Soperton, Georgia.

Born in Treutlen County, she was one of seven children born to the late Lester Morgan and Reba Jennette Nunn Salter. After graduating from Treutlen High School she began a career in Nursing working as a Nurse's Aide at the Treutlen County Nursing Home.   She later attended Swainsboro Technical College and received her Nursing Training in Laurens County. In the mid 1970s she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she worked as an Emergency Room and Recovery Room Nurse until retiring and returning to Higgston in 1995.

Since returning to Montgomery County she has been a member at Aimwell Calvary Holiness Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, George Thomas Moore and Marcus "Shorty" McGowan; an infant sister, Eva Lee Salter and a brother A.G. "Bossie" Salter.

Survivors include her three daughters, Geri Moore Kennel (Ron), Higgston, GA, Sandra Moore Jones (Ridge), Conyers, GA, Kaye Moore Gotterher (Terry), Louisville, CO, her siblings, Thurman Salter, Soperton, GA, Mary Salter West, Conroe, TX, Jean Salter, Higgston, GA, Lonnie Salter (Shirley), Alston, GA, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
