Mr. Virgil Lee Odom, age 86, of Adrian died Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
Mr. Odom was born in Emanuel County and was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ruby Dell Lord Odom, his wives, Charlene Williams Odom and Belle Mercer Odom, and his son, Darrell Odom. He was a former plant foreman with Adrian Housing Company, a retired farmer, and a member of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church, Adrian.
Survivors include his wife, Gena Claxton Odom; daughters, Cherry Odom of Asheville, NC, and Sandra (Bill) Cranford of Dublin; step-children, Danny (Connie) Mercer of Adrian, Lynn (Yvonne) Johnson and Keith (Tina) Johnson, all of Swainsboro, and Mary Jo (Randy) Buxton of Kite; seven step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; brother, Gene (Virginia) Odom of Adrian; sister, Ruby Erkkinen of Phoenix, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Poplar Springs United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, with Reverend Mark Hardin and Reverend Allen Meeks officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Michael Johnson, Stan Powell, Joseph Johnson, Kenny Odom, Walter Haywood, and Kyle Odom.
The honorary escort will include Allen Braswell, Bob Jackson, Dennis Whitfield, and the men of Poplar Springs United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
