Mr. Wendell Ray West, age 81, formerly of East Dublin, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, January 28, 2026 at the Glenwood Nursing Home in Glenwood, Georgia.
Born in Mississippi, he was the youngest and last living of six children born to the late Lee and Lennie West. As a young child the family moved from Mississippi and settled in Georgia.
After serving in the United States Army, Mr. West began a long career in the Trucking Industry. He drove "over the road" for many years before an accident settled him into local hauling. Since 1990 he has worked in the logging industry, pulling for Kenneth Bell Logging and Ray West Logging, out of Glenwood. At the time of his retirement, he had been trucking for over forty years.
Mr. West enjoyed fishing, drag racing and singing Karaoke to Conway Twitty songs.
He was a member of the Rosemont Baptist Church in Soperton.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Anne Johnson West and his siblings, Audie S. West, Hazel Finch, Peggy Guin, Betty Bell and Bonnie Rogers.
Mr. West leaves behind: his children, Wendell R. West Jr., Lyons, GA, Jason R. West Sr. (Joni), Mt. Vernon, GA, Wendy West Deese (David), East Dublin, GA; grandchildren, Jesse Lee West, Devon Thomas West (Magen), Jason R. West Jr. (Kara), Jenifer L. West (Dustin), Wendell Kyle West (Lacey), Kristopher David Deese (Chassidy), Alyssa Renee Deese (Nicholas); seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 31, 2026 in the Billy Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Reverend LaDon Connell and Reverend Duane Clements officiating.
Mr. West will be laid to rest in the Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
His family will receive friends at Sammons Funeral Home on Friday, from 6:00 – 8:00 o'clock p.m.
