Mr. William E. "Gene" Stewart, age 81, of the Minter Community died Monday, December 5, 2016.

Mr. Stewart was born in Dublin and grew up in Treutlen County.  He was preceded in death by his parents, William Riley Stewart and Johnnie Dorsey Stewart.  He was retired from J. P. Stevens, East Dublin, and was a member of the Minter Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a member of Minter Baptist Church where he had served as deacon and Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Fannie Mae Young Stewart; his daughter, Debbie (David) Smith of Dublin; grandson, Daniel Smith of Dublin; brother, Charlie Max (Catherine) Stewart of Marine, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in Minter Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 8, with Reverend Ben Edwards and Pastor Kenneth Jones officiating.  Burial will be in Minter Baptist Church Cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
