Mrs. Wonnie Walker Jackson, age 81 of Soperton passed away peacefully on Thursday morning at Dublinaire Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dublin, Georgia.
Born in Norristown, she was one of fourteen children born to the late Reverend Curd Walker and Lula Bell Johnson Walker. She grew up in the Gillis Springs Community where she attended school. As a teenager and responsible member of a large family she learned early on the importance of caring for your family and working hard to help and support your family's needs. In 1961 she married Lothair native, Willie Jackson Jr. with whom she had seven children and remained married until his passing in 2011. She worked for a short time at the Soperton Shirt Factory until the raising and nurturing of their children required her presence at home.
She was a former member at Johnson Chapel where her father was the pastor.
Mrs. Jackson enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, cooking and tending to her flowers.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Wendy Sheree Jackson Rogers, a daughter in law, Luana Meadows Jackson and siblings, Donovan "Slim" Walker Sr., Huey Pierce Walker Sr., Virgil Walker, Tony Walker and Trudy Walker.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Percy Jackson, Terry Jackson, Craig Jackson (Shari), Brad Jackson, Brock Jackson (Martha), Derek Jackson (Kristen); a son in law, Chris Rogers; siblings, Bona Walker, Callahan, FL, Curd Walker (Carla), Evans, LA, Clarence Walker, Gillis Spring, GA, Clora Moseley, Jesup, GA, Polly Byers, Ball Ground, GA, Nina Poole, Gillis Springs, GA, Sue Ellen Messer (Terrence), Jesup, GA; grandchildren, Hunter Jackson (Kaycey), Kyle Jackson, Brandon Jackson (Danielle), Josh Byrd (Katisha), Marco Arellanes (Amelia), Abdi Arellanes (Janessa), Annaleise Rogers, Rosario Delgado, Lainey Jackson, Kimberly Burnett (Toby), Jason Parnell (Sonya); great grandchildren, Trey Jackson, Kaydance Jackson, London Byrd, Egan Byrd, Ian Byrd, Tyler Pendrey (Meagan), Cole Burnett, Jaydon Parnell, Dillon Parnell and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Monday, April 22, 2024 in the Williams Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with Pastor Bradley "Buck" Benton officiating.
Mrs. Jackson will be laid to rest beside her daughter in the Barnhill Cemetery in Treutlen County, GA.
Her sons will serve as casket bearers and will carry her body to it's place of final rest.
Her family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Sammons Funeral Home.
