Virginia Mae Owen, age 84 of the Norristown Community of Emanuel County passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 6, 2026 at her home.
Born in Richmond, Virginia, she was the youngest child born to the late Richard R. Owen and Ila Elizabeth Whitlow Owen. She had lived in Virginia and South Carolina before moving to Georgia and settling in Norristown in October of 1989. She had worked as a Machine Operator at the Ethica Sewing Factory in Swainsboro before retiring in the late 1990s. After retiring she obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant's certificate from Swainsboro Technical College.
Ms. Owen's life was centered around her faith and her church. She had served as the assistant to the Pastoral Staff of the church, played the piano and the organ, sang in the choir and was proud or her testimony and loved to testify. She loved sewing and serving and sharing her God given talents with others.
She has been a longtime member of the Norristown Revival Center in the Norristown Community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son, Perry Cartee, a son in law, Charlie Carlisle and a sister, Hazel Ann Siefers.
She leaves behind, children, Carolyn Smith, Spartanburg, SC, Susie Whilden, Spartanburg, SC, Angie Carlisle, Louisville, KY, Jerry Cartee, Spartanburg, SC, Ila Oglesby (Mark), Swainsboro, GA, Vicki Foskey (Jimmy), Dublin, GA, Leroy Herron (Amy) Cummings, GA, a sister, Elizabeth McCall, Waterloo, SC, a brother, Richard Owen, a daughter in law, Kimberly Cartee, Lexington, KY, twenty three grandchildren, forty eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Norristown Revival Center with Pastor Jack and Sister Patty Stafford officiating.
Her family will receive friends on Monday, at the church from 12:00 o'clock noon until the hour of the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Lucas Barreto, Avery Herron, Dalton Foskey and Mark Oglesby.
Ms. Owen will be laid to rest in the Mt. Zion Church Cemetery in Emanuel County.
